Words from the Artist
“Astute Limestone County high school teachers noticed my creative tendencies. They directed me to work on the school newspaper and yearbook. This led me to study commercial art in college. While obtaining a commercial art degree, I took several painting classes. I graduated from Athens State University in Athens, Alabama with a major in art and a minor in computer science. After college, I worked in Huntsville, Alabama as a technical illustrator, publications manager, animator, and web designer.
I remembered how much I enjoyed the painting classes and started painting for fun. I use an oil painting technique that involves slowly building up layers of semi-transparent paint to create a realistic image. Photography is a major influence. Ideas for paintings come from photos I gather of family, friends, and outdoor activities. My goal is to enjoy describing the beauty of the Tennessee Valley with paint and brushes.”
