Ana Alicia Romero’s paintings are inspired by her Hispanic heritage and her love of Dia de los Muertos, her favorite holiday. Her piece “Catrina Rosa”, which depicts a skeleton dressed in traditional Mexican garb and carrying a basket of flowers on her head has become the face of Decatur’s Dia de los Muertos celebration which brings thousands of festival-goers to downtown Decatur on November 2nd each year. Decatur High School, Drawing 2 Class

Students participating in the Drawing 2 class at Decatur High School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by creating “Cavaleras” of famous, deceased artists. Through this project, students learned about a different culture, customs and aesthetics associated with the Dias de Los Muertos Festival.
