Material Surroundings
Take a closer look at these works through our virtual tour.
‘Material Surroundings’ investigates sensory relationships with place, finding common ground between two artists whose work is rooted in design, textiles, and handcraft. Slowing down, observing and responding to nature with attentiveness to detail and exploring ways of relating to multiple landscapes informs the intention and process of making the work. The qualities of unpredictability and wonderment found in nature are also evident in the use of textiles, predominantly re-purposed linens, garments, and plant-based dyed natural fiber. The work aims to translate narratives about the immersion in natural environs and encourage connection with one’s surroundings.
