Astute high school teachers noticed my creative tendencies. They directed me to work on the school newspaper and yearbook. This led me to study commercial art in college. While obtaining a commercial art degree, I took several painting classes. I graduated from Athens State University in Athens, Alabama with a major in art and a minor in computer science. After college, I worked in Huntsville, Alabama as a technical illustrator, publications manager, animator, and web designer. I remembered how much I enjoyed the painting classes and started painting for fun.
I use an oil painting technique that involves slowly building up layers of semi-transparent paint to create a realistic image. Photography is a major influence. Ideas for paintings come from photos I gather of family, friends, and outdoor activities. My goal is to enjoy describing the beauty of the Tennessee Valley with paint and brushes.
