Old churches, local historical landmarks, and remnants of old America make incredible subject matter for my art. These local treasures are fading away and will not be with us much longer. I have to capture them before time erases them completely. I am compelled to younger generations of how life was and raise appreciation of what is often overlooked.
I use soft pastels, oil paints, and watercolor as my mediums. I am drawn to light and dark contrasts that will work great in a painting. My approach is to not go overboard with details, but a somewhat loose representation of the scene. I will take artistic freedom to move elements in the scene or manipulate the colors a bit. I am more concerned that my painting reads well and is inviting to the viewer.
