MoonPie & RC: Celebrating the Quintessential Southern Snack
- Jan 29–Mar 9, 2019
- Carnegie Visual Arts Center
An exploration of a slice of Southern culture – the humble beginnings of RC and MoonPie as the quintessential southern snack – and its role (since 1974) as a coveted Mardi Gras throw and sweet treat. The combination of RC and MoonPie was made famous in the 1950s by Big Bill Lister, who immortalized the sticky sweets in a country song.
This exhibit will combine the vintage memorabilia collections of the Chattanooga Bakery, makers of MoonPie, and Mr. Merv Michael, son of Aaron (AR) Michael, the owner of the Decatur, Alabama Royal Crown bottler from 1944-1974.
