Carnegie Kicks Off Community Service Project: Luv Luggage

By • Jul 18th, 2007 • Category: News

The Carnegie Visual Arts Center, in partnership with Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, is pleased to announce an exciting new community outreach project designed to meet a specific need for foster children in Morgan County and the surrounding areas-Luv Luggage. Children come into foster care with very few possessions-and those are often carried in plastic sacks or boxes. The Luv Luggage project will team donors, volunteers and social services together to provide each child in transition a hand painted piece of luggage that they can call their own. Students (as well as adult volunteers) will hand-paint custom designs on donated, hard or soft sided luggage; which will then be given to foster children in our area. This opportunity to express care and concern for a child experiencing separation from their family is at the heart of this project. Luv Luggage is slated to kick-off in the early fall of 2007. There are many ways in which you can help with this project: ~Donate hard or soft sided, gently used luggage ~Make financial gifts ~Volunteer to clean and paint luggage Donations will be accepted during regular museum hours throughout the summer or monetary gifts may be mailed to the Carnegie Visual Arts Center, 207 Church Street NE, Decatur, AL 35601. A gallery exhibit of the painted luggage will take place later in the year.
